Tofu gets a bad rap, mainly because of abominations like Tofurkey and Tofurti (Tofu ice cream). But it can be really delicious in soups or stir fry, as long as it doesn't masquerade as meat. Tofu is tasty and healthy, and vegans can enjoy this recipe too.

Spicy Tofu

You will need:
1 block firm or extra firm tofu
3 green onions, diced
1 Tbsp sesame oil
1/2 Tbsp sesame seeds
2 1/2 Tbsp chili paste
1 1/2 Tbsp soy sauce
1/4 tsp garlic powder

This recipe is pretty simple and can be made very quickly. It is spicy though, so you may want to tone it down a little to your tastes.

Drain your tofu block and cut it first in half, and then into thick slices. Put the sesame oil in a large pan on medium heat, and lay all your tofu slices into the pan.

Now sprinkle or pour all the other ingredients evenly over the tofu. This is also the time to add anything else that might taste good. I had some minced garlic and leftover shitake mushroom so I chopped those up and tossed them in.

Now cook for about 5 minutes, until the pan is sizzling, and flip the tofu slices over. Cook for another 5 minutes on this side, and it's done! Put the tofu on a plate and pour the sauce over it and enjoy. This goes very well with a seaweed salad, or any other food that will cool your tongue off from eating this spicy dish.
